What makes Sajek truly unique is its cultural diversity. Indigenous groups like Chakma, Marma, Tripuri, and Lushai live in villages such as Ruilui Para and Konglak Para, offering visitors a chance to experience warm hospitality and learn about their traditions.
Most travelers begin their journey from Dhaka to Khagrachhari, which takes about 7–8 hours by bus. From Khagrachhari, you can hire a “Chander Gari” jeep for the 2–3 hour scenic drive to Sajek. The journey itself is an adventure – winding mountain roads, deep green forests, and breathtaking viewpoints along the way.
On the road, you’ll pass through several army checkpoints, so carry a valid NID (for locals) or passport (for foreigners). In some cases, foreigners may need special permission, so it’s best to check the latest requirements before traveling.
Sajek is beautiful year-round, but the experience changes with the seasons:
Winter (Nov–Feb): Crisp air, clear skies, and the famous “sea of clouds” in the mornings.
Monsoon (Jun–Sep): Lush greenery, dramatic mists, and light rain adding to the romantic atmosphere.
Spring & Autumn (Mar–May, Oct–Nov): Pleasant temperatures and vibrant landscapes.
If you want postcard-perfect views, aim for early mornings or sunset hours – the colors and cloud formations are simply magical.
Watch the Sunrise from Konglak Hill – A short hike to the top rewards you with panoramic views of the hills and valleys, sometimes stretching into India’s Mizoram.
Enjoy the Sunset at the Helipad – A popular gathering spot where the sky glows in shades of orange, pink, and purple.

Stargazing – On clear nights, Sajek’s minimal light pollution makes it perfect for watching the Milky Way.

Sajek offers a range of accommodations – from budget cottages to luxury resorts. Most are located near Ruilui Para, offering spectacular hill and cloud views right from your balcony. However, after a major fire in February 2025 that damaged several resorts and shops, availability may vary. Book early and confirm that your chosen stay is operational.
Carry cash – Mobile banking and card payments are not always available.
Pack warm clothes – Nights can get chilly, especially in winter.
Respect local culture – Dress modestly and ask before taking photos of people.
Stay on marked paths – The terrain can be steep and slippery in monsoon season.
Be prepared for limited internet – Mobile network is improving but still patchy in some spots.
